CENTRAL MARKET

19 June

The Ljubljana Central market designed by Slovenian architect Jože Plečnik stretches between the Triple bridge and the Dragon bridge. It is positioned on the banks of Ljubljanica river and is next to the Ljubljana cathedral.

The colonnade that resembles the Bernini colonnade at the saint Peter's square was built between 1940 and 1944. Plečnik also planned to build a bridge that would connect the two banks of the river, however the bridge was not built until 2010 - 70 years later. The whole complex reflects renaissance influences and shelters a flower shop, butchers, fish market and numerous other shops.
