The Ljubljana dragon has it's origins in the legend of Jason and the Argonauts. It is commonly said or believed that a Greek hero Jason and the Argonauts passed through this lands on one of their journeys. When they came to what is now Ljubjana, the Argonauts came across a large lake with marshes alongside which was home of a large dragon, which Jason killed after a heroic struggle.
